Set up your YouTube Data API key

  1. Open the Google Cloud Console and select or create a project. Google Cloud Console
  2. Enable the YouTube Data API v3 for that project. YouTube Data API v3
  3. Create an API key under Credentials.
  4. Restrict the key to the YouTube Data API v3.
  5. Paste the key into Fundstoff under Settings.

Searches use your personal quota. Playback through the embedded player does not consume that search quota.

Set up your Serper.dev API key

  1. Open serper.dev. serper.dev
  2. Create an account.
  3. Copy your key from the dashboard.
  4. Save the key in Fundstoff under Settings.
  5. The key is used for provider and expert searches.

Serper offers a free allowance; beyond that, usage may incur costs according to their current terms.

Sign in with Google

Google sign-in is needed for:

  • your library
  • saved finds
  • synced custom filters
  • your own rooms
  • comments, votes and ratings

It is not needed to browse the landing page or to view public rooms.

Google sign-in is not the same as a YouTube API key: the sign-in identifies you in Fundstoff, the API key gives your browser access to YouTube search.

Save finds

Every result has a save action. Finds go into your personal library and can be added to a room later — including afterwards from the library.

Create rooms and curate together

Rooms are shared collections. You can use rooms privately, invite-only or publicly. Invited people must sign in with their Google account and accept the invitation. Only then can they add finds, comment, rate, tag and vote. The invitation link alone grants no access rights. Public rooms can be read without signing in; any active participation requires signing in and membership.

Where are my API keys stored?

  • Your YouTube and Serper keys are stored in your browser's local storage.
  • They are not synced with your Fundstoff account.
  • You need to enter them again in another browser or on another device.
  • They are lost when you clear your browser data.
  • Fundstoff never stores your keys in its backend.
  • Search requests go directly from your browser to YouTube or Serper.

Common questions and issues

My YouTube search returns an error.
Check that the key is valid, that YouTube Data API v3 is enabled and that the key restriction allows that API.
My search suddenly stops working.
The daily quota of your Google Cloud project may be used up. It resets each day.
No providers or experts are shown.
That search needs a Serper.dev key. Add it in Settings and set a country or location.
My key is gone.
Keys live only in the current browser. After clearing browser data or switching device, enter it again.
Can I use Fundstoff without any key?
Yes — tutorial search works without a key. Sign in with Google to save what you find.
